Important Notes:
- All Nikah/Marriage ceremonies done according to the Islamic sharia law, as well as Scottish law at the same time.
- Both Nikah ceremony and legal marriage will be done jointly by the imam and at the same time.
- The Imam will conduct the ceremony on behalf of the Aberdeen City Council as well as the Mosque.
- The religious and legal ceremonies cannot be separated and must be done at the same time.
- There will not be Nikah ceremony without paper work (The mosque doesn’t conduct verbally only ceremonies).
- All legal certificates and paper work to be collected from Aberdeen City Council.
Procedure for making Nikah (Marriage):
- Book Appointment with the Imam and collect reference details
- Apply for the marriage in Aberdeen City Council as early as possible (Please check how early you need to apply by law as rule keeps changing by home office)
- Both Parties to be interviewed at least two weeks before the ceremony by the Imam to plan and prepare for the ceremony
- The Marriage schedule to be collected from Aberdeen City Council one working day before the ceremony
- The Ceremony will take place usually in the service room of the Aberdeen Mosque and Islamic centre.
- Any special arrangements or needs to be communicated to the Imam at least one week before the ceremony.
- The service is free, but donations are welcome and optional.
