Friday Quran School for Children

The Friday Quran School has been running for a number of years now. Depending on the availability of co-ordinators and teachers, the semester times are typically as follows:

  • Months: September to May
  • Day: Friday
  • Time: Between Asr and Maghrib depending on the Month
  • Venue: Spital Mosque

Volunteering as a Teacher

All qualified individuals are welcome and invited to volunteer as teachers. Potential teachers typically undergo a selection session where Quran recitation, teaching experience, and other essential skills are tested. The teachers are then requested to give a preference as to which age-group they would like to teach. They are also invited to apply for a Criminal Records Bureau check and also state if they have First aid skills. Teachers are then selected accordingly by the co-ordinator.

Al-Noor School

Al-Noor “The Light” – School was established in 1984 to cater and fulfil the need of the Muslim children in Aberdeen. The school has been run and assisted by a group of committed sisters and brothers in providing a good foundation of Islamic education to the children and is not in any way a profitable or commercial entity.

Throughout the time Al-Noor School had gone through several phases of development and upon careful consideration and considering the increasing demand to fill in the gap when the students completed the foundation level; GCSE Islam course was introduced.

Alhamdulillah, it can be concluded that Al-Noor School, with the grace of Allah SWT; is running well and hopefully it will continue to progress Insha Allah.

AMWA

AMWA was founded in 1998 by a group of Muslim women in Aberdeen because they cared about the needs of the women and children. What started as a few ladies who decided to ‘help each other out’ grew to a non-profit volunteer organisation that holds yearly festive events and activities suiting the needs of ethnic minority women and children. We are inclusive of all people of other religious or non-religious affiliations with a Mission to:

  • relieving the needs of minority ethnic women and children;
  • promote religious and racial harmony; and
  • promote equality and diversity.

So now, we try our best to:

  • promote social interaction and good relations with and between other communities;
  • organize cultural festivals and social events for minority ethnic women from all communities;
  • organize training workshops and classes;
  • counsel women in need of support;
  • provide support and care for women in need (i.e. visits and provide meals for bereaved depressed and convalescing women;
  • give communications support to non-English speaking women; and
  • provide information regarding services to new comers to the Aberdeen community.

Islam Aberdeen

Islam Aberdeen is an independent organization aimed at fulfilling the obligation of delivering the authentic message of Islam, according to the Qur’an and Sunnah, to Muslims and non-Muslims in Aberdeen and surrounding areas.

The Islam Aberdeen Granite City Dawah Team at one of its regular weekly sessions at St. Nicholas Square

Islam Aberdeen was formed in September 2012, shortly after a da’wah training course provided by Imran ibn Mansur (aka Dawah Man). What resulted out of that was regular weekly da’wah stall in the city centre (outside Mark & Spencer’s) which has been ongoing since September 2012 by our Granite City Da’wah Team Alhamdulillah.

Literature: Islam Aberdeen has sourced many da’wah literature materials including over 3,000 copies of the Qur’an as well as other booklets on Islam for the yet-to-be-muslims. This material is distributed weekly at our street da’wah stall.

Events: So far we have been able to, with the help and support from the other organisations, invite many prominent muslim speakers from all over the world to Aberdeen to deliver lectures such as:

This events have catered for the muslim community providing important reminders as well as for the yet-to-be-muslims who are in need of clarifying their misconceptions and increasing knowledge on Islam.

Da’wah manual: Islam Aberdeen has also prepared a guide on how to give da’wah. Please download a pdf copy here.

There is a lot of work yet to be done for the future.

  • The Granite City Da’wah Team will shall in shaa Allah continue with the da’wah stall every Sunday 10am-1pm.
  • We would like to train more muslims in being able to be confident in presenting the correct message of Islam.
  • We would like to hold more beneficial events for the muslims and the yet-to-be muslims.
  • We would like to get involved more with the muslim youth possibly having events with fun activities such as sports, swimming, etc.
  • We would also like to get active in the wider community helping the needy, cleaning the streets, clearing snow, having soup kitchencs, etc.

Please feel free to contact us on: info@islamaberdeen.com for any information or if you would like to get involved. Feel free to check our work on our facebook and youtube channels (where you will find video recordings of some of the events)

AUMSA

AUMSA is THE society for both Muslims and non-Muslims studying at the University of Aberdeen or Robert Gordon University. Our goal is to bring together people from all walks of life and unite them in a common cause: to gain the pleasure of Allah (swt). In the Qur’an, Allah (swt) states “Help one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety).” [5:2, The Holy Qur’an].

We aim to achieve just this: whether it is through lectures, study circles or the Islam Awareness Week. Our dinner parties and quiz nights are also a great opportunity to make new friends and meet like-minded people. At AUMSA we are dedicated to charity. As reported in Hadith, “Indeed Allah accepts the charity and take it by His own hand and makes it grow like one of you make grow your colt (little horse). Surely a morsal becomes like the mountain of Uhud.” [al-Tirmidhi]

You can contact the AUMSA team by sending an email to aumsa@outlook.com.
