Imam Ibrahim

The Imam provides services to both Muslims and non-Muslims and he leads and supervise the religious activity in the community, serving people from all backgrounds within the mosque and outreach.

The Aberdeen Mosque and the Islamic Centre is religiously led by Imam Ibrahim. The Imam has led us since 2004, may Allah reward him.

Imam Services

You can contact the Imam of the mosque regarding the following services:

  • Islamic advice or clarification: The Mosque provides Islamic Advice or clarification on matters that CANNOT be found elsewhere or dealt with easily.
  • Islamic Marriage: The Mosque provides Marriage (Nikah) services. Please read the section below for more information about Marriage. Note, however, that the mosque does not provide “verbal only” or “unregistered marriage” ceremonies.
  • Embracing Islam & Islamic declaration: All welcome. Becoming a Muslim is as simple as stating that “There is no one worthy to be worshipped except Allah Alone, and Muhammad is his Messenger.” Please contact the Imam for further Information
  • Counselling and family matters: The mosque does not officially conduct Counselling on family matters. You can, however find help and information from the Islamic Sharia Council (http://www.islamic-sharia.org/).
  • Islamic Divorce: The mosque does not officially conduct divorces. However, we could provide Islamic advice on the issue. Alternatively, you could contact the Islamic Sharia Council for professional advice (http://www.islamic-sharia.org/).
  • Chaplaincy: Visiting the sick and patients in the hospital when required is provided by the Imam or Imam assistants or mosque Congregation members.
  • Other Religious matters: The Mosque will only take on board matters that are of relevance. Please contact the Mosque General Secretary for general Inquiries at amicgs@gmail.com
  • Prayer Times: Before contacting the Imam on Prayer timings, please read the prayer times information here

Funerals

For funerals please come to the mosque (164 Spital, Aberdeen. AB24 3JD) during any of the congregational prayers and, speak to a member of the committee, any member of the congregation or the Imam,

Before You Contact The Imam

If your inquiry is General, please do not contact the Imam. Refer to the Administrator (07412324458) or the General Secretary (amicgs@gmail.com) for general inquiries.

Some General inquiries that the Imam DOES NOT attend to includes:

    Providing information about;

  • Prayer time and opening time
  • Neighborhood Issues
  • Halal products
  • Accommodation
  • Facilities in the city
  • Visiting the mosque
  • Requesting Quran copies and Islamic Materials
  • Financial aid

Becoming a Muslim

Simply by saying with conviction “La Ilaha Illah Allah, Muhammad Rasul Allah” (There is no one worthy to be worshipped except Allah Alone, and Muhammad is his Messenger), one converts to Islam and becomes a Muslim.

If you are ready to accept Islam, then please book an appointment with the Imam. Be ready, prepare your heart and mind to be reverted back to Islam, and to submit to the will of Allah. In accepting islam, you adopt it as your way of life, practicing it’s worship, adopting its values principles and ethics in your daily life.

Please ensure you make Ghusl when coming, “Ghusl” is a full bath (or shower), completely washing the entire body with the intention of entering into Islam.

The Marriage (Nikah) Procedure in Aberdeen Mosque

Important Notes:

  • All Nikah/Marriage ceremonies done according to the Islamic sharia law, as well as Scottish law at the same time.
  • Both Nikah ceremony and legal marriage will be done jointly by the imam and at the same time.
  • The Imam will conduct the ceremony on behalf of the Aberdeen City Council as well as the Mosque.
  • The religious and legal ceremonies cannot be separated and must be done at the same time.
  • There will not be Nikah ceremony without paper work (The mosque doesn’t conduct verbally only ceremonies).
  • All legal certificates and paper work to be collected from Aberdeen City Council.

Procedure for making Nikah (Marriage):

  • Book Appointment with the Imam and collect reference details
  • Apply for the marriage in Aberdeen City Council as early as possible (Please check how early you need to apply by law as rule keeps changing by home office)
  • Both Parties to be interviewed at least two weeks before the ceremony by the Imam to plan and prepare for the ceremony
  • The Marriage schedule to be collected from Aberdeen City Council one working day before the ceremony
  • The Ceremony will take place usually in the service room of the Aberdeen Mosque and Islamic centre.
  • Any special arrangements or needs to be communicated to the Imam at least one week before the ceremony.
  • The service is free, but donations are welcome and optional.
